The SMART program integrates with another CME initiative which provides companies with energy management report cards that guide the identification of energy efficiency improvement opportunities. The input that participating companies provide will also help the CME, government and utilities to develop programs that align with the needs of the Ontario industry – so get involved and make your voice count! This CME initiative is referred to as the Energy Benchmark Study.
SMART program participants and non-participants alike, can take part in the Energy Benchmark Study. The Energy Benchmark Study is also open to large companies (more than 500 employees). All sized companies are entitled to fill out the energy diagnostic.
From your participation in the CME Energy Benchmarking Study, you will receive a concise and easy-to-read report that describes your company’s uses of energy, provides some insight into how to save energy and shows you how your company benchmarks against others in the same or in a similar industry type.
The Energy Benchmark Study does not have size restrictions for participants. To ensure integrity of the research, the study will follow quotas in terms of sectors and a mixture of small, medium, and large companies per sector.
If your company chooses to participate, the Questionnaire forms (xls) that need to be completed can be downloaded from the links on the right side of this page.
If you participate in the Energy Benchmarking Study, you will become eligible to be selected as one of a selected number (88) of survey respondents to be eligible for a further FREE onsite plant audit assessment to highlight opportunity areas to reduce energy use. This two day audit will be conducted by senior energy professionals from a leading national engineering firm and it will provide your company with further insights into energy savings opportunities.
Participants that are part of the SMART program qualify for the pre-feasibility study, which provides a dollar value estimate for potential improvement projects.
The pre-feasibility assessment under SMART provides $6,000 for the assessment and requires the company to pay $1,000. The $1,000 fee is waived for those companies that also participate in the Energy Benchmark Study.
